The Haye garmi meme originates from the song Garmi sung by Neha Kakkar, Badshah, composed & penned by Badshah. The soundtrack which is part of the film’s music was released on YouTube by the official Twitter handle of T-Series on December 26, 2019. Nora Fatehi who is a Canadian actress, model and dancer starred in the song. On May 17, 2021, an Instagram user shared a video of a man doing the Garmi step on a makeshift raft, floating down a flooded street when cyclone Tauktae impacted various parts of India. The video was later shared by the Canadian on her Instagram handle who found it amusing during the difficult circumstances for the affected people. The Garmi meme went viral and its usage generally grew when summer grows warmer in India.
