The Kanye West holding notepad meme originates from the American rapper Kanye West’s series of deleted Instagram posts hurling negative remarks about ex-wife Kim Kardashian and her new lover, Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson.
On February 13th, 2022, Ye posted several social media attacks on Kardashian and Davidson after Kardashian filed for divorce from West in February 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage. After speculations of his account being hacked, He posted a photo of himself looking directly into the camera while holding up a yellow writing pad with the words “My account is not hacked” and the date “2 13 22” scrawled on it to reflect Sunday’s date. In another photo, he wore a black hood over his head. The photos were posted with the words “MY ACCOUNT IS NOT HACKED I WILL BE AT SUNDAY SERVICE AT NOON AND WILL BE ME TAKING NORTH AND SAINT TO THE SUPERBOWL SHORTLY AFTER @chethinks I’LL DOUBLE WHATEVER THEY PAYING YOU JUST SO YOU DON’T HAVE TO LOOK AT THAT PAWN EVERY AGAIN BIG LOVE.” The post was immediately deleted but the screenshots were already all over the Internet.

On February 13, 2022, the Twitter account @PopBase tweeted the screenshots of the Instagram posts on the platform. 10 minutes later, Redditor u/superassholeguy posted the image on the subreddit r/MemeEconomy. The post received more than 1.4k upvotes within 24 hours on the platform. After a few more minutes, the user u/AndyS posted the blank meme template of Kanye holding the notepad.
An hour later, Twitter user @afc_jamie7 posted a reply to a tweet which was the first time that the image was posted with a text. On the same day, another Twitter user @jr_itm posted the meme with a sketch of SpongeBob SquarePants. The tweet has received more than 126k likes and 16.5k retweets till now.
