The Maa Bahu Mil Gayi meme originates from the 2001 Bollywood movie Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham. The meme is a desi version of the viral Speed Dating meme from the western Internet. The two-pane meme is picked up from two different shots of the movie. The upper pane involves Rahul Raichand (the character played by Shahrukh Khan) and Anjali Sharma (the character played by Kajol) during the wedding of Rukhsaar (the character played by Simone Singh). The lower pane is a still in which Rahul Raichand meets his mother Nandini Raichand (the character played by Jaya Bachchan) and points towards her grandchild. The popular use of the meme is to select one’s mate depending upon the compatibility on a specific choice.
